Edward Segrist founded Niche of Time in 1948 as Segrist’s Jewelry. It is a mystery that is lost in time when Edward changed the shop's name. Edwards’s son, Mark, began apprenticing with his father in watch and clock repair in the mid 1980’s. Mark attended jewelry school and found that, although he loved repairing vintage timepieces, his skills and imagination thrived in jewelry, eventually being nominated for the Swest Award for Excellence while at the Texas Institute of Jewelry Technology.
Since then Mark has always hand-picked his jewelry with a strictly trained eye, looking for workmanship flaws and durability problems. As one of his old jewelry teachers used to say “some jewelry looks great in a magazine but you can’t really wear it.” Mark also hand picks all diamonds sold at Niche of Time, rejecting a huge portion of them (especially for cut) in order to get the best value for his clients.
